The Presidents of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who arrived on a working visit to Astana, met with the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. During the meeting, which took place with the participation of members of the delegations of the two countries, prospects for strengthening multifaceted interstate ties were discussed, TDH reports.

Before the start of the negotiations, the leaders of the two countries were photographed against the backdrop of the state flags of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. President Tokayev expressed gratitude to Serdar Berdimuhamedov for his support and desire to develop bilateral relations, emphasizing the significant potential for cooperation in the trade, economic, transport, logistics, energy and industrial spheres.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, in turn, noted the importance of interaction with Kazakhstan and thanked Tokayev for his contribution to the development of interstate dialogue. He emphasized that close cooperation has been established between the countries in various areas, including active political dialogue, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties, as well as inter-parliamentary contacts.

Particular attention was paid to issues of transport cooperation, including strengthening work along the trans-Caspian transport corridor and using the potential of the seaports of Turkmenbashy, Aktau and Kuryk. The possibilities of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway and the China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran transport and transit corridor were also discussed.

In the energy sector, the presidents discussed the possibilities of bilateral partnership in the gas and electricity industries. Serdar Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness for negotiations on these issues.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation was also noted as an important component of bilateral relations. In June, the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan were held in Kazakhstan, and in October it is planned to hold the Days of Culture of Kazakhstan in Turkmenistan.

At the end of the meeting, the presidents exchanged views on priority issues of bilateral cooperation, emphasizing the traditionally friendly relations between the peoples of the two countries, based on good neighborliness, equality and mutual support.
