The President of Turkmenistan proposed to the UN to develop a Global Security Strategy

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed that the UN develop a Global Security Strategy. The head of state made such an initiative at the plenary meeting of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the meeting, noted that Turkmenistan proposes to begin discussing the possibilities of developing a Global Security Strategy based on the principles of the UN Charter and generally recognized norms of international law, taking into account current realities and trends in world development.

According to the head of state, such a strategy should reflect the presence, along with traditional ones, of new risk factors that have emerged recently.

The President of Turkmenistan emphasized that he considers it necessary to include in the Global Security Strategy a number of areas of UN activity, including preventive diplomacy as a tool for preventing and neutralizing conflicts, using the potential of neutrality for the peaceful, political and diplomatic settlement of disputes and contradictions and restoring a culture of trusting dialogue in based on the decisions of the UN General Assembly to declare 2021 the International Year of Peace and Trust and 2023 the “Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace.”
