On 4 May, in the course of the Cabinet session, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov criticized the performance of Turkmenistan’s State Statistics Committee and relieved Aina Orayeva, Chairperson of the agency from her post. Khalykdurdy Gurbanov, who had previously had the position of Orayeva’s deputy, was appointed a new head of the agency.
The head of the state stated that reliable statistical data with regard the social and economic processes, which are underway in the country, are needed to implement successful reforms in finance, taxation and budget as well as monetary and credit areas.
“Reliable data are needed to make efficient managerial decisions”, — the President said.
It should be emphasized that no data pertaining to key economic indicators, such as GDP, unemployment rate or Turkmenistan’s population is available at the website of the State Statistics Committee.
Former chairperson of Turkmenistan’s Central Bank Khydaiberdy Orazov spoke about the shortage of qualified senior executives and the lack of statistical data in the interview to “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”.
