Two weeks ago “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” reported that an 8-year old Orazdurdy Babayev had been kidnapped on 26 February.
Unidentified individuals put the child in a car and he later woke up on wasteland on the outskirts of the city. The police refused to initiate criminal charges and urged the child’s mother not to tell anyone about the incident, threatening her with dismissal of her husband, the boy’s father.
It became known that the woman (her name is Lachin) had filed a report about the missing child.
Following this, the law enforcement officers asked Lachin to submit another report requesting that the case be closed and explain that there had been a misunderstanding and that she had allegedly asked her a neighbour to give her son a ride to home from school.
On the way they had stopped at the market and the boy left the car without waiting for them to return.
The mother refused this proposal point blank and told the law enforcement officers that if the case was closed, other children could go missing in the future.
Failing to achieve their purpose, law enforcement officers of Bagtyyarlyk police department of Ashgabat found a solution by coercing a man with a criminal record of repeated offences to sign a report that he had given a ride to the boy and dropped him off at his request.
Despite the fact that the man has no vehicle or even a driving license, the case on the child’s abduction is now officially closed. The post The police close the case on the abduction of 8 year old Orazdurdy Babayev first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
