On the first day of the official visit of Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov to Uzbekistan the official negotiations were held and some intergovernmental agreements were signed. The second day, however, was totally devoted to cultural and entertainment events.
In the morning of 24 April, President Berdymukhammedov arrived at the airport of Urgench the administrative centre of Khorezm region of Uzbekistan where he was greeted by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Performances of local musicians and dancing groups were arranged for the heads of the two states.A large-scale crowd of people holding flags of both countries lined up along the route from the airport to the city.
According to the news agency “Fergana”, students and other participants of the mass scene stood along the road from 9 a.m.
to 9 p.m.
The Uzbek Service of Radio “Liberty” reports that in connection with the visit of the distinguished guest the entrance to and exit from the city were cordoned off for two next days.
Employed residents and students of Urgench who live outside the city failed to return home and were forced to stay overnight with their friends or relatives.
As “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” has previously reported, from the airport the heads of the state headed to the village of Gaibul, a compact settlement of ethnic Uzbeks, laid flowers to the monument of the Turkmen poet Magtymguly and opened the House of Turkmne-Uzbek friendship.
According to TDH, scientific writings authored by the Turkmen leader were presented in the library of the House.
Then they set out to Khiva, explored local historic sights and the fortress “Ichan-Kala”.
“Walking around the historic district, the Turkmen leader came up with a proposal to make a joint Turkmen-Uzbek film here”, — the state information agency of Turkmenistan says.
To wrap up the visit to Khiva, the concert was organized for presidents Berdymukhammedov and Mirziyoyev after which the Turkmen leader departed to the airport.
