The outcomes of the first day of President Berdymukhammedov’s visit to Uzbekistan (photos)

On 23 April the official visit of Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov to Uzbekistan kicked off.

The one-to-one meeting with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was held followed by the talks in an extended format bringing together members of the official delegations of the two countries.

Based on the results of Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan negotiations 33 bilateral agreements were signed.

It became known that Uzbekistan will take part in the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline project.

The countries also agreed on partnership between law-enforcement agencies to combat cross-border crime, terrorism and drug trafficking.

Transportation, manufacturing and power engineering were named the strategic cooperation areas.

“The meeting was focused on further strengthening of trade and economic cooperation.In the first quarter of 2018 alone the trade turnover between the countries increased by 55%.

All opportunities are in place to increase the trade turnover volume to $500 million by 2020, — the public affairs office of Uzbekistan’s President reports.

Moreover, the sides reached agreements in joint manufacturing of agricultural machinery and electrical goods, supply of oil and oil products and extending trade between the cross-border areas.

In the course of negotiations Berdymukhammedov also proposed to set up the Advisory Council of the heads of Central Asia states to hold regular top level meetings in each of the region’s capitals.

Then the heads of the states attended the opening ceremony of “Ashgabat” park in Tashkent and laid flowers to the monument to Magtymguly Pyragy, which was opened on 18 May 2017.

The park occupies the space of 10 hectares with a fountain featuring the statue of Akhal teke horses at the entrance.The park also features an amphitheater in the form of a falcon, a replica of Ashgabat airport’s bird, according to the state information agency TDH.

Let us recall that on 20 May 2017, in the course of Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Turkmenistan, the sister city agreement between Ashgabat and Tashkent was signed.

After lunch the President of Turkmenistan laid flowed to the Independence Monument and the monument to Islam Karimov.

Later the same day Turkmenistan’s National Trade Fair was opened in Tashkent.

The second day agenda of Berdymukhammedov’s visit to Uzbekistan includes participating in the opening of the Turkmen-Uzbek House of Friendship in Urgench as well as the visit to historic and cultural sights in Khiva.
