The Ombudsman of Turkmenistan took part in the regional meeting of human rights defenders of Central Asia in Istanbul

Ombudsmen of Turkmenistan Yazdursun Gurbannazarova took part in a Regional working meeting of national human rights institutions of Central Asian countries in Istanbul.

As the edition of “Turkmenistan: Golden Age” reports, to the meeting were also invited the international experts and representatives of national human rights institutions from other regions.

The meeting participants discussed key issues in the activities of national human rights institutions, including accreditation in the Global Alliance of NHRIs and involvement in UN human rights mechanisms.

Moreover, one of the main topics was the role of national human rights institutions in promoting and protecting human rights in the context of emerging regional challenges related to climate change and human rights violations as a result of doing business.

The event was organized by the Regional Office of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for Central Asia and the Regional Office of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Istanbul.
