The two torches of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Relays have kicked off an eight-month tour of the Japanese capital. On the first day, the Olympic flame was displayed in the Tokyo administration building. The torches will then travel to all 62 districts of the main Japanese city, before ending their journey on July 3, 2021.
The revised Olympic torch relay is set to begin on March 25 in Fukushima Prefecture and travel through Tokyo from July 9 to 23 next year. The Paralympic Torch Relay will begin on 12 August and will end before the opening ceremony.
Last year, the Olympic flame was lit at Ancient Olympia in Greece and traveled to Japan before the Games were postponed.
Fukushima has been selected as the starting point for the Olympic Relay as organizers seek to link the Games to reconstruction efforts in the area.
