On the territory of the Lebap state power plant, construction work, installation of power plants, switchgears and commissioning work at a new gas turbine power plant, which is prepared for launch by the Japanese company Sumitomo Corporation, have been completed.
The new generating facility consists of three gas turbine units of the Japanese company Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, each with a capacity of 144 MW.The project was financed by the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation through a loan agreement with Vnesheconombank of Turkmenistan.
The commissioning of the new hydroelectric power station will create the necessary technical conditions for uninterrupted power supply to the developing economy of the eastern region of the country, create new jobs, and also become the main source of electricity that will be exported to neighboring countries.
The power plant, with a capacity of 432 MW, will become the tenth generating facility built in the country since the turn of the century, with a total capacity of 6,511 MW.
The commissioning of the power plant will be another step towards the fulfillment of plans that provide for bringing the total annual volume of electricity produced in Turkmenistan to 33 billion kilowatt-hours over the next seven years.
