During a working trip to Mary velayat, the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov himself got behind the wheel of an SUV to explore the beauty of the Karakum steppe, writes MIC.

“The Karakum Desert is recognized by the international scientific community as a unique and ecologically significant region. This is clear evidence that the steppe has distinctive features and meets high international standards,” the source notes.

In 2018, the international rally “Amul-Hazar” was held here, with a length of more than 1.5 thousand km. Last year, UNESCO included the Silk Road: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor site on the World Heritage List.
