The most powerful magnetic storm in 20 years is expected on Earth

For the first time in two decades, our planet may be covered by a magnetic storm of the highest, fifth level. Sergei Bogachev, head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, reported this to RIA Novosti.

According to the expert, the Sun threw four gigantic plasma clouds towards the Earth. Some of these clouds will merge into one large object that will hit the Earth's magnetic field on the night of May 10-11.

The storm is expected to reach G4.33, with a 15% chance of upgrading to G5 (the highest level). This will be the most powerful magnetic storm since 2005.
