“Gundogar”, with reference to the state information agency TDH reports that on 8 June President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov held a regular session of the Cabinet of Ministers where he ordered installing the monument to a bicycle in Ashgabat.
On 3 June the World Bicycle Day, established by the UN this year, was celebrated in Turkmenistan for the first time.
With a view of eternalizing this date the head of the state proposed to install a monument devoted to this event in Ashgabat.
Deputy Prime Ministers Dadebai Amangeldiev, Bakhargul Abdyeva and Purli Agamyradov were charged with the task of setting up a commission to prepare the design of the monument and determining its location. The festive opening ceremony is reported to be held on 3 June 2019.
At the Cabinet session the President also reminded that the first Bicycle Riders Association in Turkmenistan was set up in 1894 in Ashgabat.
It should be emphasized that the first bicycle which is similar to the contemporary one was designed in 1884 by the English inventor John Kemp Starley and has been manufactured since 1885.
The first folding bicycle was made in 1878 and the first aluminum bicycles appeared in the 1890-s.
