The Minister of Energy of Türkiye arrived in Ashgabat on the issue of purchasing Turkmen gas

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye, Alparslan Bayraktar, arrived in Ashgabat to negotiate the purchase of Turkmen gas.

In his statement on the eve of the visit, the minister noted that he plans to discuss with the leadership of Turkmenistan the details of transporting Turkmen gas to Türkiye via Iran and Azerbaijan.

Turkmen gas can reach Europe via Türkiye.In his opinion, there is no need for large investments in the infrastructure for delivering gas from Turkmenistan to Türkiye.

The minister also mentioned that Türkiye is working on contracts for the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the period 2027-2037, and they will be made public soon.

Türkiye consumes about 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The country also positions itself as a gas hub, having 5 LNG terminals of various capacities and a developed network of gas pipelines on its balance sheet, the source notes.
