President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and all the fraternal people on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan celebrated on September 1.
Noting with satisfaction that at present the Turkmen-Uzbek cooperation is constructive, sustainable and developing in the widest range of areas, the head of state expressed his firm conviction in the further deepening of friendly relations for the benefit of our peoples.
Taking this pleasant opportunity, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed sincere wishes to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for good health, happiness and prosperity, and peace, further progress and prosperity to the fraternal people of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
On August 31, 1991, at an extraordinary session of the Supreme Council of the Uzbek SSR in Tashkent, a resolution “On the declaration of the state independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was adopted, according to which the country acquired full state power.
By the same resolution, September 1 was declared the Independence Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan.The resolution also renamed the Uzbek SSR into the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Since then, every year the main national holiday is ceremonially and colorfully celebrated throughout the country. Large-scale celebrations are held in the National Park. Alisher Navoi in Tashkent, concerts, theatrical performances and sports events are organized in all cities of the republic.
September 1 is officially a non-working day in Uzbekistan. For some, the 2nd and 3rd of September are also non-working days.
