The French “Repair Bonus” program, which partially compensates for the cost of repairing household appliances, has already saved 178 000 devices from landfills in just one year. Euro-pulse.ru reports this.
Launched in 2022, the program subsidizes 25% of the cost of repairs, up to a maximum of 60 euros. During this time, the French most often repaired smartphones, washing machines and dishwashers. 39% of respondents said that the subsidy was the decisive factor in favor of repair rather than purchasing a new device.
The “Repair Bonus” will continue to operate in 2024, but with an expanded list of subsidized equipment. It will include electric shavers, epilators, hair straighteners, power tools and scanners.
This program is part of the EU's commitment to creating a circular economy, proclaimed within the framework of the European Green Deal. The goal of such an economy is to respect natural resources by reducing the consumption of raw materials and energy, as well as increasing the service life of things.
