Today Turkmenistan held the flower-laying ceremony at the monument to Yuri Gagarin in Ashgabat.
The International Day of Aviation and Cosmonautics is celebrated on April 12. The date became a holiday in connection with the successful flight into space on April 12, 1961 the world’s first cosmonaut, Hero of the Soviet Union Yuri Gagarin.
The residents of the Turkmen capital and employees of the Russian Embassy participated in the event.
The monument to Yuri Gagarin in Ashgabat was opened in April 2021 on the territory of the Department of Education, Science and Culture of the Embassy of the Russian Federation.
Made by sculptor Alexei Leonov, the bronze bust depicts a smiling space age pioneer in a space suit.A bronze bust similar to the one, that was solemnly opened in Ashgabat, has been installed in almost fifty cities of the world.
