The first UNESCO Corner was opened in Turkmenistan

The solemn opening ceremony of the UNESCO Corner was held today at the Local History Museum of the Lebap velayat.

This event was timed to coincide with the solemn events held in Turkmenabat on the occasion of significant dates celebrated this year - the thirtieth anniversary of Turkmenistan's membership in UNESCO and the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the UNESCO Convention “On the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage”.

The UNESCO corner includes information about the cultural values of the Turkmen people included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, various literature on this topic. Here you can also get acquainted with the texts of the UNESCO Conventions for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and exhibits of a temporary thematic exhibition.

The creation of the Corner is aimed at studying and promoting knowledge about the cultural values, traditions and customs of the Turkmen people, the humanistic principles and ideals of UNESCO, the idea of peace and mutual understanding between people.

The opening ceremony of the UNESCO Corner was attended by the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Chinar Rustemova and the head of the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan Gozel Magtymgulyeva, cultural and art workers of the Lebap velayat.
