The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the 42nd General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia, which ended today in Bangkok (Thailand), during which the elections of the president, members of the Executive Committee and chairmen of the standing committees of the OCA were held.
According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, 45 delegations of the National Olympic Committees, as well as heads and representatives of the bodies of the OCA and the International Olympic Committee took part in the work of the General Assembly.
The Turkmen delegation was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Berdiniyaz Myatiev and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee Ata Akmamedov.
Sheikh Talal Ahmad Al Fahad Al Jaber Al Sabah, nominated by the NOC of Kuwait, was elected President of the Olympic Council of Asia for 2023-2027 as the President of the OCA Rights Committee for 2023-2027. He defeated his opponent Husain Al Musallam by 4 votes (24/20).
The President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, Timur Kulibayev, who has chaired the Central Asian zone of the OCA since 2015, has been re-elected to the position of Vice President of the OCA.
The OCA General Assembly also summed up the results of the past year, presented the final report on the preparation of the Organizing Committee of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, as well as the updated Olympic Solidarity program.
The General Assembly also approved Thailand's proposal to postpone the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) from November 2023 to February 24-March 6, 2024. In addition, at the request of Saudi Arabia, the postponement of AIMAG 2025 to 2026 has been approved.
The Olympic Council of Asia is one of the five continental associations of National Olympic Committees recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the governing body of the Olympic movement in Asia, which currently unites 45 states.
The organization coordinates and manages the Olympic movement in the OCA member countries, regularly hosts the Asian Summer and Winter Games, Beach Sports Games and Indoor Games.The OCA not only provides assistance in holding the Asian and regional games, as well as international competitions, but is also an authorized body in resolving problems and disputes that may arise from its members and relevant parties.
The headquarters of the OCA is located in Kuwait.
