Over a month ago President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov inspected the construction site of Ashgabat-Turkmenabat motorway.
At that time it transpired that the commissioning of the first section of Ashgabat-Tejen motorway was rescheduled from the end of last year to 2021.A more precise date for completing construction works has not been specified.
However, according to correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”, the construction of Ashgabat-Turkmenabat has been currently put on hold.
Because of the lack of funding construction workers have not received their salaries for the past two to three months. For this reason many resign to look for a different job. There is no funding even to purchase fuel for construction equipment.
It should be emphasized that the motorway contractor is ZAO Türkmen Awtoban, whereas private companies Nusaýýollary and Hyzmat merkezi as well as business entities Edermen и Altyn nesil act as subcontractors.
The deadlines for commissioning the second (Tejen-Mary) and the third sections (Mary-Turkmenabat) of the motorway remain unchanged and are scheduled for December 2022 and December 2023 respectively.
The total value of the project, which is scheduled to be finalized by late 2023, is estimated at $2,3 billion.
Let us recall that Turkmen companies were charged with building motorways Ashgabat-Turkmenabad and Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi after Turkey-based Polimex had rejected the offer by the Turkmen authorities to build the motorway at their own expense and cover the expenditures from profits the toll motorway is expected to generate in the future. The post The construction of Ashgabat-Turkmenabat motorway suspended because of lack of funding first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
