Argentina, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates may soon become new members of the BRICS international economic bloc, the NSN portal reports.
The expansion of the BRICS, whose members are currently Brazil, Russia, India, China and the Republic of South Africa, was announced during the ongoing three-day summit in Johannesburg (South Africa) with the participation of the heads of member states of the organization.
The new members of the block were chosen according to the principle of even geographical distribution, therefore, the membership included one more African and Latin American country, as well as the states of the Middle East - Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Algeria, Venezuela, Türkiye and Belarus also applied to join the BRICS during 2022-2023.
