The collection of the “Dash Metjid” Museum of Folk Crafts, located on the territory of the Kunya-Urgench State Historical and Cultural Reserve, contains a unique exhibit - a carpet depicting the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin. This was reported by “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.
The rarity, which is considered the only carpet portrait of the poet in the world, entered the museum in 1987 from the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan.
It was woven at the height of the Great Patriotic War in 1943. Its authors are Ene Hydyrova and Jeyran Akhmedova, employees of the artistic experimental workshop “Turkmen carpet”.
The length of the carpet is 1, 28 m, width - 1, 3 m. Silk and cotton threads were used for its basis. Along the edges, it is framed with ancient carpet patterns “pürdek gül”, “söýnek” and others.
The inventory of the technical data of the carpet indicates that they belong to the carpet weaving of the Pendi region, that is, to Mary velayat. However, no information about the carpet makers and any information about the author of the sketch has been preserved.
