On September 29, 2021, a meeting was held between Ambassador of Turkmenistan in Kabul Hoja Ovezov and the acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi.
The Afghan Foreign Minister extended greetings to the leadership and people of Turkmenistan in honor of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence.He also expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for continued humanitarian support to the Afghan people at a difficult time, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry reports.
The officials also discussed arranging meetings bringing together representatives of business communities of both countries to boost goods turnover and search for new formats of economic collaboration.
In the meantime, on 1 October, 2021 the news outlet The Tribune India reported that so far, only a small group of countries and UN aid organizations have interacted with the Taliban.
These include the Ambassador of Turkmenistan in Kabul Hoja Ofzov with whom Muttaqi discussed TAPI projects in detail, said Taliban spokesman Muhammad Suhail Shaheen.
The news outlet highlights that the TAPI gas pipeline project was once of crucial interest to India in securing substantial gas supplies through the land route.
On 18 August, 2021 in an interview to the TV channel Sky News Muhammad Suhail Shaheen said that Taliban is interested in building the TAPI pipeline and in the implementation of other large-scale infrastructure projects in the country.
