Tajikistan Negotiates Financing of Its Section of Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan Railway

Around $128 million will be required for the implementation of the Tajik section of the Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan railway (TAT) project, Avesta.tj cites Tajik Minister of Transport Azim Ibrohim as saying at a press conference on Wednesday.

The Minister noted that the railway route for this project has been approved by the government commission and negotiations with funds are currently underway to finance its implementation.

“Tajikistan did not refuse to participate in this project, and it should be implemented. The problem is the financing of the project. Currently, negotiations on financing the Tajik section of the project are underway with the Asian Development Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development,” Ministry Azim Ibrohim said during the conerence.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the Tajik section will run through the territories of the Jaloliddin Balkhi and Panj districts and link with the Kunduz in Afghanistan.

A memorandum on the construction of the TAT railway was signed in March 2013 by Heads of State of the three countries.
