Tajikistan defeated the UAE in a penalty shootout and reached the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup

The Tajikistan national football team reached the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup for the first time in its history, beating the United Arab Emirates team in a dramatic match.

The 1/8 finals match of the tournament, which takes place in Qatar, ended in a 1:1 draw after extra time. In the penalty shootout, the Tajik players were more accurate - 5:3.

Regular time of the meeting ended with the score 1:1 - Vahdat Hanonov scored in the 30th minute, and Khalifa Al-Hammadi equalized in the last seconds of extra time.

For the Tajikistan team, this is the first ever participation in the final stage of the Asian Cup. In the quarter finals, the Tajikistan team will play with the winner of the Iraq-Jordan pair. Earlier, the Australian team reached the quarterfinals, defeating Indonesia with a score of 4:0.
