The results of the Inter-University Essay Competition entitled “The Sustainable Development Goals are in Our Minds and Actions” have been announced.The creative contest was held to mark 25 years of Turkmenistan’s neutrality and the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. 235 students from 17 higher education institutions of our country were taking part in the competition initiated by the Dovletmammed Azadi National Institute of World Languages.
According to the rules of the contest and the Strategy for Improving Foreign Language Teaching, essays in English were submitted to the judges.A total of 20 best essays have been chosen by the judges.
Nurgeldy Arazov, a student of the Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics, is the grand prize winner.First place went to Enejan Uraeva (the Dovletmammed Azadi National Institute of World Languages), Baynazar Nepesov (the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan), and Toygeldy Niyazov (the International University for the Humanities and Development).
Sixteen university students are second- and third-place winners.Several winning essays were presented using Power Point slides at the awards ceremony that took place in the assembly hall of the Dovletmammed Azadi National Institute of World Languages.
The winners of the regional higher education institutions delivered virtual presentations.The essays demonstrated a clear understanding of the key objectives and mechanisms for implementing the SDGs.Since the overall concept of sustainable development integrates three wide-ranging dimensions: social, economic and environmental, there was a wide range of topics to address.
The issues of education, health care, social protection, ecosystem and natural resources conservation, urban and rural development were explored most extensively.The essays discussed the effective steps taken by the country to achieve the SDGs by implementing the national programs and strategies.
In their essays the students also recognized the importance for every citizen to actively participate in all spheres of state life and society and formulated their proposals and views on the SDGs implementation.
The works also offered an in-depth overview of multifaceted cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations, our country’s fruitful and positive foreign policy, and its active collaboration in stepping up combined efforts aimed to promote security, stability, and universal peace in line with the SDGs.
The winners received certificates and commemorative gifts for their best essays.The competition, which was held in the country for the first time, turned out to be a very enriching and productive experience.
And it was decided to organize it every year.
