Suspect of destroying “Robin Hood tree” detained

In the UK, in the Northumberland National Park, the famous tree known as the “Robin Hood tree” was cut down, reports Gazeta.ru.

The tree gained worldwide fame after it “starred” in the adventure film “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves”.According to legend, the tree in which the world famous legendary robber Robin Hood hid was located in Sherwood Forest and it was an oak tree, but a plane tree growing in the north of England was used for filming.

In 2016 it received the title of “Tree of the Year”.

As Northumberland County Police immediately launched an investigation into the vandalism, a possible culprit was soon identified. A 16 years old teenager is suspected of cutting down the famous tree for hooligan reasons.

“This is a world-famous landmark and today's events have caused shock and anger not only among the local community, but also beyond. An investigation was immediately launched and we have arrested one suspect in connection this afternoon”, - a county police spokesman told the press.
