Study: Regular consumption of carrots improves health

A new study conducted by Samford University researchers found that eating carrots three times a week significantly increased carotenoid levels in the skin. These substances are known for their ability to reduce the risk of cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

The results of the study will be presented at the NUTRITION 2024 online conference, which will be held on July 1-2, gazeta.ru reports with reference to Health News.

The experiment involved 60 young volunteers, divided into four groups. For a month, the first group ate Granny Smith apples, the second - young carrots (100 grams each), the third took multivitamins with beta-carotene, and the fourth combined carrots with vitamins.

The scientists measured the levels of carotenoids in the participants' skin before and after the experiment. Carotenoids are plant pigments that give bright colors to fruits and vegetables. High levels of carotenoids in the body have been linked to improved antioxidant protection, a reduced risk of heart disease and some types of cancer, and improved skin and immune health.

The study found that eating three servings of baby carrots per week significantly increased the concentration of carotenoids in the skin. The combination of carrots with multivitamins gave an even more pronounced effect.

Scientists have concluded that proper nutrition effectively provides the body with essential nutrients and promotes health. They recommend increasing your carrot intake and considering taking appropriate supplements to reduce your risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease.
