Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that on 8 November, 2021 a general meeting devoted to the moral character and conduct of students was held in the conference room of the Teacher Training University named after S.Seidi in Turkmenabat.
Besides the University administration, the deputy khyakim of the city and the deputy head of the municipal education board as well as an official from the public prosecutor’s office attended the meeting.
Addressing the students, chancellor G. Mukhammedov said that three students had recently committed wrongdoings which discredited the image of a Turkmen student. Two female students were detained by the police for engaging in prostitution and one student was detained for theft.
A representative of the public prosecutor’s office claimed that foreign online media outlets and social media negatively affect the youth. He urged students to refrain from using social networks and VPN and to leave mobile phones at home or in dormitories rather than bringing them to the University.
The head of the department of the Women’s Association proposed that female students should undergo a medical examination in a women’s clinic and submit a health certificate to the Dean’s Office.
Сoncern was also voiced over the fact that many students enter the US “Green Card” Lottery (Diversity Visa Lottery).
“I must warn you that if we identify those who entered for the “Green Card” lottery or would like to leave the country by any other means, they will be expelled from University. We train personnel for our home country!” the chancellor said in his closing remarks.
Radio “Azatlyk” previously reported that the faculty of the Turkmen State University of Culture had been urged to sign a document preventing them from using VPN applications or Instagram and Facebook accounts.
In addition, they are limited to sending videos and photos via the only Turkmen messenger IMO and are allowed only to send text messages. The post Students at Teacher Training University barred from using social networks or entering green card lottery first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
