Spring Sowing of Potatoes Starts in Turkmenistan’s Dashoguz Velayat

Farmers in Turkmenistan’s Dashoguz velayat have been allocated land plots for the spring planting of potatoes, the country’s official media reported on Monday.

The velayat's potato fields will occupy 1,900 hectares, according to the report. The most of the fields are located in the Gurbansoltan eje etrap, where the N. Andalyp and Şawat farmers' associations and other private structures are specializing in potato cultivation.

Another large potato producer in the velayat is the S.А. Niyazov etrap, where 450 hectares of land were allocated for the spring planting of the crops.

Farmers in the Dashoguz velayat mainly plant early and mid-season varieties of Dutch potatoes, which are unpretentious in care, are distinguished by high yields and are well adapted to local soil and climate conditions.

In the velayat, 800 hectares of land will be allotted for autumn potatoes. Local potato producers expect to receive an average of 140 centners per hectare.
