The latest issue of the scientific practical journal Foreign Policy and Diplomacy’ has just come out. It spotlights the most important events in the country’s foreign policy in the fourth quarter of last year.
The journal opens with a speech delivered by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Ashgabat on October 11, 2019.
The head of state highlighted that with the chairmanship of the CIS in 2019 Turkmenistan’s main objectives were to provide considerable assistance in developing the Commonwealth’s potential, and to give a new solidity and significant substance to its activities in line with present-day requirements.
One of the articles discusses a working visit by President of Turkmenistan to Japan on October 21-23, during which the head of state attended the celebrations marking Emperor Naruhito’s ascension to the throne.
At a ceremony held in Tokyo, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Hirosaki University. During the visit, the nation’s leader held successful negotiations with representatives of the friendly country’s business community, and met with Turkmen students who study in the Land of the Rising Sun.
The 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku on October 25 attended by the President of Turkmenistan was another major event that marked the period under review.
During the working visit, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to discuss key international issues of common interest and prospects of economic cooperation between the two countries.
The current edition also covers summit talks between President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad, who conducted an official visit to our country. The meaningful discussion centered on the promotion and enhancement of the mutually rewarding Turkmen-Malaysian partnership, implementation of earlier agreements, and possibilities for closer fruitful contacts in various fields.
The quarterly also details the outcomes of the Turkmen leader’s official visit to the Republic of Italy on November 6-7.
In addition, the series of articles on summit meetings and talks features a working visit by the head of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Uzbekistan undertaken to consider prospects of bilateral cooperation and to attend the Second Central Asian Consultative Summit, as well as a working visit to the Russian Federation to participate in the informal CIS Summit.
An article authored by Ms. A. Pavlova, a representative of the Tourism Committee of the CIS Business Center for Economic Development looks at the impressive progress our country has made in advancing international cultural and tourism cooperation.
As the author emphasizes, Turkmenistan is a true treasure trove for tourists, which is packed with hidden gems from the Moorish civilization to the Seljuk dynasty. Apart from the world-renowned capital of the Parthian Empire, the ancient city of Nusay, the country boasts another tourist attraction, which is a real wonder Central Asia’s oldest city of Merv.
The issue also presents an interview with UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan Ms. Christine Weigand about the effective collaboration, achievements and prospects for increased partnership in the context of our country’s membership in the UNICEF Executive Board in 2018-2020.
In a series of themed articles, readers are offered a publication on the efforts to improve court proceedings in compliance with the standards of international law, while taking advantage of digital technologies.
One of the articles in the journal explores environmental cooperation in Central Asia in the light of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in 2017-2019.
This edition also contains articles on our country’s gradual transition to a greener economy; constitutional reforms and modernization of the laws of Turkmenistan in this regard; the realization of transit-transport potential in the Caspian Sea.
