On 1 February, 2022 correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” reported that a special operation was being carried out by law enforcement officers in Ashgabat and its suburbs to combat drug trafficking from Iran.
At that time some 30 individuals have been detained, including five in the village of Bagir and 13 – in Geokdepe. A cache was located in a cemetery near Ashgabat where 25 kilos of drugs were stored. According to the investigating officers, about 300 kilos of drugs have recently been delivered to Turkmenistan.
According to a source at “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”, the operation to detain those engaged in drug trafficking is still ongoing.
The detainees are being questioned and based on their statements other individuals who are involved in drug trafficking, storage and distribution will be identified.
Two drug dealers were detained in the village of Gökje. About five people were also detained in the villages of Akdaşaýak and Garadaşaýak. A cache, where 35 kilos of drugs were stored, was located in Garadaşaýak.
Greenhouses are being searched for drugs by police officers with dogs in the aforementioned and neighbouring villages.
