Since July, Turkmenistan has begun comprehensive preparations for participation in COP-29

Deputy Prime Minister Rashid Meredov, at a meeting of the Government of Turkmenistan, made a proposal to begin in July comprehensive preparations for the participation of the country’s delegation in the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-29), which will be held in Baku from 11 to 22 November.

For these purposes, it is proposed to hold a regular meeting of the Working Group created within the Interdepartmental Commission on Environmental Issues on July 22. Based on the results of the meeting, it seems appropriate to develop new projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Turkmenistan and adapt to climate change.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that Turkmenistan pays special attention to strategically significant issues on the global agenda related to climate change issues. At COP-28, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov put forward important initiatives in this direction. Currently, proper work is being carried out to implement them.

R. Meredov also proposed, on the eve of the 19th Youth Conference (COY-19), upcoming in Baku in November, to organize Youth forums on climate change in September in all velayats and Ashgabat.

In addition, a proposal was voiced to hold an International Conference on Food Security in the Conditions of Climate Change in the Turkmen capital in November this year.This forum is planned to be organized under the auspices of the UN and jointly with its specialized structures the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Food Program and the Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the proposals presented and gave the Deputy Prime Minister relevant instructions, TDH reports.
