Serdar Berdimuhamedov: Neutrality is Key Element of Turkmenistan’s Foreign Policy

Neutrality and preventive diplomacy, aimed at preventing conflicts and addressing their root causes, are central components of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, stated President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during his speech at the BRICS+ “Outreach” Summit.

“We are convinced that the fundamental principles of neutrality are highly relevant in today’s world, and with the support of the international community, they can make a real contribution to ensuring global security,” emphasized Berdimuhamedov.

Turkmenistan actively participates in international efforts to promote cooperation, mutual respect, and consideration of shared interests, he added.

According to the president, Turkmenistan leverages its neutral status to promote a peacekeeping agenda, ensure global and regional security, and foster a culture of equal dialogue, trust, and predictability in international relations.

He highlighted the importance of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, headquartered in Ashgabat, in maintaining regional stability.

President Berdimuhamedov also recalled Turkmenistan’s proposals at the UN, including the development of a global security strategy and initiatives to strengthen regional stability. A noteworthy milestone was the unanimous decision by the UN General Assembly to declare 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust.

Environmental concerns were another focal point of his speech, including initiatives for a Global Framework Program for transitioning to a circular economy and protecting the natural resources of Central Asia and the Caspian Sea.

In closing, the president emphasized the importance of cultural, scientific, and humanitarian cooperation, underlining the value of mutual understanding between peoples.
