Seminar on assessment of data systems on children in care held in Ashgabat

A seminar to assess the administrative data systems for children in alternative care and guardianship was held in Ashgabat.

The organizers of the seminar are the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), reports the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.

The event was attended by representatives of state bodies and departments of Turkmenistan, hyakimliks of Ashgabat and velayats, as well as the Office of the Ombudsman.

UNICEF experts Joanna Rogers and Ekaterina Spasova spoke about the concept of alternative care and its characteristics, relevant assessment mechanisms at the national and sectoral levels, as well as reporting on TransMonEE.

TransMonEE is a partnership initiative of the region's national statistical offices that aims to improve the coverage, quality, accessibility and use of data on children in a range of areas related to children's rights and well-being, in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Agenda for Sustainable Development up to 2030.

During the seminar, the participants discussed the evaluation of data management systems for children in need of support, and further steps in the work aimed at providing access to alternative services and promoting the improvement of the relevant database, the source notes.
