The National Seminar on Advance Passenger Information (API) and Cooperation with Airlines was held in Ashgabat by the International Organization for Migration in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan. This was reported by “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.
The event was attended by employees of national ministries and agencies involved in the processing of passenger data.
International experts shared their experience in implementing the API system, discussed with the participants its technical aspects, legal framework, data confidentiality, as well as the issue of a single window - the Passenger Information Processing Center.
The Advance Passenger Information System (API) requires an air carrier to collect biographical data and flight details of a passenger during the check-in process.
API is a standard commitment required of all states by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Turkmenistan has been a full member of ICAO since 1993.
The International Organization for Migration intends to continue working with Turkmenistan on various aspects related to the implementation of the API. In this regard, this seminar is one of a series of events dedicated to this system.
