Since late September the works to demolish satellite aerials as well as shields and metal grids on balconies and windows of residential houses have been resumed.
Teams of workers in trucks with loading hoists travel around the city to locate the “unnecessary” equipment and accessories which are subject to demolition.
The dismantling works are performed without any warning. The fact that the owner is not at home is not an obstacle and therefore many inhabitants find out that satellite aerials were removed after the teams had departed.
Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that if an owner of the apartment is not at home, workers might remove antennas, dryers, shields and external window shutters.
Despite the fact that many residents hoped that the requirements would be weakened, the local authorities have introduced even tougher rules: “redundant” things not only from facades of the buildings which are seen from driveways but from the side of the yards must be removed.
“The authorities decided to make Ashgabat and its yards look like an ideal picture where residents do not watch satellite television, dry out linen, install metal grids on the windows, as they are not scared of burglars, do not go for a walk in the yards or go out in the evening.
There should be only asphalt, concrete and no vegetation in the streets!”— says an outraged source of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”.
