Salt storm from Aral Sea engulfs Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, May 29

By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:

A salt dust storm from the Aral Sea hit Turkmenistan and reached the capital of the country, Ashgabat.

According to regional media, the salt storm began from Uzbekistan from the Aral region.

The storm hit Khorezm, Bukhara and Navoi regions of the neighboring country. These areas border the Lebap province of Turkmenistan.

Reportedly, the salt dust is containing nitrogen fertilizer that has been gathering at the bottom of the Aral Sea for years.

Given this, it is recommended to keep all the windows closed, limit stay in the open air and, if possible, buy gauze masks.

The problem of the Aral Sea hit the north of Turkmenistan.

The Dashoguz region was subjected to the negative impact of an ecological catastrophe. There were recorded acute problems related to providing the population with clean drinking water and fighting the salinization of cropland.
