Russian Railways offered Turkmenistan to launch express trains between Arkadag and Ashgabat

JSC "Russian Railways" (RZD) proposed to Turkmenistan a project of a regional passenger train express on the route Arkadag - Ashgabat with a speed of up to 140 km/h. This was announced by Sergey Pavlov, First Deputy General Director of Russian Railways, who arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the international transport and transit conference.

According to Pavlov, at present, as a pilot project between Russian Railways and Turkmen colleagues, a joint modernization of the car repair plant in Gyzylarbat has been carried out. The solution of this problem will allow increasing the capacity of this enterprise several times and ensuring the maintenance of wagons and the modern level of transportation.

In addition, the Russian side offers Turkmenistan several electrification projects and the development of a regional passenger rail express.

The city of Arkadag, which will house approximately 70 000 people, is being built on an area of 950 hectares, 30 kilometers southwest of Ashgabat. “Smart” residential buildings controlled via a smartphone, a square with a flagpole, the buildings of the mayor’s office and other institutions, as well as the Ruhyet Palace, the velayat department of education and culture, a drama theater, a library, a hospital, a museum, the Higher International School of Horse Breeding, Scientific and Production horse breeding center and others.

The construction of this mega-project was started in 2019.
