Russian Chess Federation set to move to Asia

The Chess Federation of Russia (FCR) will officially move from the European Chess Union (ECU) to the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) in late February early March, 2023. This was announced by the FCR Executive Director Alexander Tkachev, reports the “Kommersant” newspaper.

The AFC Congress has to approve the transition. The Congress meeting will be held from February 26 to March 3.

As per the words of Tkachev, all the documents needed for transition have already been sent to the AFC as well as to the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

The FCR will become the first Russian Sports Structure to move from a European federation to an Asian one. Today, 52 associations have been gathered under the auspices of the Asian Organization.
