Russia has banned the import of several vegetables and fruits from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Uzbekistan

From December 14, the Rosselkhoznadzor bans the import of tomatoes and pepper from Armavir province of Armenia to Russia, as informs RIA Novosti news agency. In products the Pepino mosaic virus has been found as explained in the department.

The Pepino mosaic virus is considered one of the most dangerous diseases of vegetables. It more often affects crops which grow in the conditions of closed ground: heat and humidity in hothouses promote active reproduction of pathogens.

In 2019 Armenia took the eighth place in deliveries of tomatoes to Russia after Azerbaijan, Turkey, China, Morocco, Belarus, Uzbekistan and Iran.

The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance will also ban from December 10 the import of tomatoes and apples from Azerbaijan because of establishment of pests. In Baku it was assumed that it is a technical error, and plans were announced to settle this issue. Last year Azerbaijan won first place in deliveries of tomatoes to Russia.

Besides, from December 11the interdiction for import of tomatoes and pepper from Turkish provinces Antalya and Izmir will be introduced and also from the Qashqadaryo region of Uzbekistan as therefrom the infected goods arrive regularly.

In the Retail Companies Association (ACORT, unites the largest Russian trading networks) it was stated that retailers imperceptibly for buyers will replace the forbidden products with vegetables of other suppliers.
