Another campaign to knock down privately-owned houses in the capital of Turkmenistan has been launched.
According to correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”, the houses which are located along the road and those which will be replaced by new residential neighborhoods and other buildings are primarily affected.
The following houses are being demolished:
in the residential district “Khitrovka” at the extension of the driveway along Khodzh Akmet Yasavi (formerly, Griboyedova streets) and Gogol streets;
in the village of Gaiynsyz-oba located on the motorway to Annau;
the houses located along the road leading to the “Old flea market” in Choganly;
two-storey apartment blocks on Nogina street;
privately-owned houses in the residential district “8 March” and on the territory of the former collective farm “Leningrad”, which are now part of Ashgabat”, have been almost completely knocked down.
Select privately-owned houses which have been left intact in residential areas “Khitrovka” and “Choganly” will be demolished in the near future.
Pursuant to the decision by the khyakim (mayor) of Ashgabat two-storey cottages for further sale will be built instead of demolished houses.
The inhabitants of the demolished houses who for some reason failed to register documents for their property are not entitled to any compensation.
Experts of Turkmenistan’s Independent Lawyers Association point out that in the majority of cases when compensation is denied owing to incorrect documentation the local authorities and flaws in legislation are to be blamed.
Radio “Azatkyk” and the website АNT have previously reported about the demolition of residential property.
Let us recall that in September 2017 the joint report by Human Rights Watch and the Turkmen Initiative for Human Rights devoted to mass violation of the rights to housing ahead of V Asian Games was published.
