Representatives of the CIS member-states discussed the decarbonization of energy sector

The decarbonization of energy sector was one of the key topics of the 59th meeting of the Electric Power Council of Commonwealth of Independent States (EEC CIS).The heads of the respective electric energy control bodies and industry specific companies of the CIS member -states Republic of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Uzbekistan - took part in the event.

The members of Council emphasized the necessity of development of the decarbonization promotion tools and greenhouse gas emission control in the electric power, considered the prospects for coordination in the field of the hydraulic power industry and strengthening of the investment capacity to the water and energy complex of Central Asia.

The Parties adopted the Joint Statement on global climate and policy pursued by the CIS member-states in this aspect, package of documents, prepared in the course of the meeting of the Coordination Council at the CIS EPC on December 15, 2021.

A new chairman of the CIS EPC Executive Committee was selected T.V.Kupchikov, the representative of Inter RAO PAO, who will head the Committee from 1 February, 2022.

The next, 60th meeting of the CIS Electric Power Council is planned to held in live format in May-June, 2022 in Kazakhstan.
