Renowned Turkmen composer Rejep Rejep dies of coronavirus

On 10 January, 2021 a renowned Turkmen and Soviet composer Rejep Rejepov, aged 76, died of coronavirus in Ashgabat.

He was buried later the same day.

Rejepov, born on 23 June, 1944 is a graduate of Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, a recipient of Lenin Komsomol Prize, People’s Artist of Turkmenistan, a recipient of the state award named after Magtymguly, Provost of Turkmenistan’s State Conservatory and the Honored Artist of Turkmenistan.

For many years he had held the post of the Chairperson of the Union of Composers of the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic.

He сomposed a lot of symphonic music, music for films, songs and was also one of production directors of “Gerogly” opera.
