Regular Ferry Service Planned to Be Launched Along Turkmenbashi-Kuryk-Makhachkala Route

Kazakhstan’s Port Kuryk LLP proposed to Russian Makhachkala Sea Trade Port JSC and Turkmenistan-based Türkmen Milli Logistik OJSC to consider the possibility of opening a regular ferry service along the Turkmenbashi port - Kuryk port - Makhachkala port route and vice versa, Kazlogistics.kz website reported on Monday.

According to the report, the Turkmen ships Berkarar/Bagtyýar of the RO-PAX type are planned to be used on the route. JSC "Makhachkala Sea Trade Port" and OJSC "Turkmen Milli Logistik" expressed their readiness to study the opening of the Turkmenbashi - Kuryk Makhachkala ferry line.

The companies are presently carrying out technical and organizational measures in the ports of Kuryk and Makhachkala related to the opening of the new ferry line.

Berkarar ship of RO-PAX type, built at Croatian shipyard Uljanik, arrived at the Turkmenbashi port in December 2014. The ferry is designed to carry on board 200 passengers, 2.4 thousand tons of cargo and 54 heavy vehicles. Bagtyýar ship of the same type was put into service in December 2015.
