On February 10, 2022, Regional Expert Meeting on Countering transnational organized crime, illicit drug trafficking and preventing terrorism organized by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) was held in online.
Meeting was attended by representatives of customs and border agencies, as well as ministries of internal affairs of the Central Asian countries.In his speech, the representative of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, having informed about the main areas of interaction between the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and UNODC, spoke in detail about the ongoing work, joint projects and activities, as well as their results.
As is known, Turkmenistan is the first Central Asian country to ratify the Agreement on the Establishment of the Central Asian Regional Coordinating Information Center (CARICC).In 2009, this Agreement entered into force for Turkmenistan.
Since then, cooperation between the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and Turkmenistan has expanded.Recognizing the importance of joint cooperation, in the same year, Turkmenistan joined the mission of the UNODC-WCO Container Control Programme (CCP).
Due to the Agenda of today's meeting, issues on regional cross-border cooperation in Central Asia, as well as plans for the coming period, were discussed.In this context, the importance of improving analytical activities on combating transnational organized crime and drug trafficking and preventing terrorism and establishing a mutual exchange of information, was noted.
