Radio “Ozodi”: Turkmenistan gives the green light to trucks en route to Turkmenistan to cross the border

Tajikistan’s service of Radio “Liberty” reports that the Turkmen border patrols are now allowing trucks from Turkey and Iran en route to Tajikistan to pass through its border.

Many drivers have been waiting at the border for over a month.

“One of the Tajik entrepreneurs who had two trucks with merchandise stuck at the Iranian-Turkmen border told Radio “Ozodi” that he obtained an entry permit an hour ago and the first two trucks have already crossed the border”, the news outlet reports.

Neither Turkmenistan nor Tajikistan authorities have provided any comment on the situation so far.

Let us recall that in late August Turkmenistan denied entry into the country to cargo trucks en route to Tajikistan.

According to Ozodi, two weeks later the authorities of Turkmenistan sent an official letter to Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry to explain that the trucks had been held for “security reasons” and “the fight against drug trafficking”.
