Several dozen students of the Turkmen-Russian school participated in the procession of the “Immortal Regiment” in Ashgabat, reports RIA Novosti.
The patriotic action, initiated by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan was held on the territory of the school named after A. S. Pushkin.
Adults and children with portraits of their grandfathers, great-grandfathers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers and other relatives, who participated in the Great Patriotic War, marched in a solemn procession around the school building.
As Konstantin Shlykov, Counsellor-Envoy of the Russian Embassy noted reverence for ancestor is the trait that unites the peoples of Russia and Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan made a great contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War, along the other union republics of the former USSR.In total, more than 300 thousand Turkmen soldiers participated in the battles of 1941-45.
More than 70 thousands of these fighters were awarded orders and medals. 104 residents of Turkmenistan were awarded the high title of “Hero of the Soviet Union”, and 15 people became full holders of the Order of “Glory”.
Turkmen citizens during the war years donated 170 million rubles in cash and about 7,5 tons of gold and silver jewelry to the Defense Fund.
