President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument of Neutrality in Ashgabat on Thursday, marking the central event of the celebrations for International Neutrality Day and the 29th anniversary of the country's special status, as reported by official media in Turkmenistan.
Speaking to the participants of the event, the head of state emphasized that Turkmenistan's neutrality, recognized twice by the UN, serves as an important tool for ensuring regional and global peace. This unique legal status, rooted in national values and enshrined in the Constitution, enables the country to actively develop cooperation with the international community and promote key initiatives.
In 2024, the UN General Assembly supported several of Turkmenistan's proposals, including the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, as well as the adoption of resolutions on Central Asia as a zone of peace and cooperation. These achievements highlight the international community's high regard for Ashgabat's efforts.
The wreath-laying ceremony featured the national anthem and included representatives from the government, diplomatic corps, public organizations, and media. After laying the wreath, the President warmly bid farewell to the participants and departed from the event.
Celebrations for International Neutrality Day are taking place across all regions of the country. Concurrently, an international conference in Ashgabat discussed priorities for sustainable development and peacebuilding. Following the principle of Dialogue is a Guarantee of Peace, Turkmenistan continues to strengthen its international position as a state that promotes constructive initiatives.
The Turkmen leader also congratulated his fellow citizens on International Neutrality Day.In his congratulatory address, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov highlighted that the policy of neutrality, based on principles of equality, good neighborliness, and respect, aligns with both national interests and the goals of the UN.
