On 26 August President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov arrived in Singapore with an official visit.
The Turkmen state-information agency TDH reported that the next day the head of state met with representatives of local large-sized businesses.
“We have heard much about the “Singapore economic miracle”, which within a short timeframe made Singapore one of the most developed countries in the world”, TDH quoted Berdymukhammedov, who emphasized that large-scale economic reforms are underway in Turkmenistan, which contributed to maintaining “high growth rate of 6 to 7%”.
The President also pointed out that Turkmenistan demonstrates interest in collaborating in energy, chemical industry, agriculture, food processing, transportation and tourism and tried to attract investors by telling them about the government support provided through tax, customs, visa, insurance and other benefits.
According to the Turkmen President, in 2018 the volume of trade between the two countries amounted to $102,8 million.However, when making a speech at the Turkmenistan-Singapore business forum the Chairperson of Singapore Business Federation Teo Siong Seng announced, according to TDH, that the last year’s trade turnover was recorded at $43,4 million.
