On 12 June President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov held a meeting in Ashgabat khyakimlik’s office (the mayor’s office) to discuss the prevention of emergency situations with members of the Cabinet of Ministers, the National Security Council and the Ashgabat municipal administration in attendance.
The President authorized the Chairperson of the National Hydrometeorology Committee Begench Mininov to provide reliable weather forecasts in a timely manner.
Minister of Construction and Architecture Soyenchnazar Selimov was ordered to ensure that existing construction regulations comply with the requirements of civil defense and emergency situations prevention when preparing the designs of buildings and structures as well engineering systems.
Deputy Prime Minister overseeing transportation and communications Mammetkhan Chakyev was charged with the task of setting up Civil Defense and Emergency Situations departments in relevant ministries and agencies.
Moreover, Deputy Prime Minister Dadebai Amangeldiev presented the plan to build storm water drainage engineering facilities in Ashgabat, which Berdymukhammedov ordered improving, the state information agency TDH reports.
Let us recall that on 7 June, the action plan to drain large volumes of storm water from Ashgabat streets and avenues with the help of relevant engineering and technical systems and the use of the drainage and communication tunnel was presented to President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov.
Storm water drainage facilities were designed after rainstorms hit central districts of the capital in mid May.
The shopping centre “Berkarar” was seriously affected with the basement, parking lots and loading zones being fully flooded.
Similar flooding occurs in Ashgabat almost every year and storm water sewage system is unable to handle such heavy rainfall.
